[Gb] I love that human interaction of [B] duets, how you [Gb] play off one another.
It's fun [Bbm] to [Gb] interact with other people, you know, something beyond yourself.
I've had the [Db] pleasure of singing with Barbra Streisand.
I'm jumping for [Ab] joy just to be in the same room with her.
Anytime you get an opportunity to sing with someone like that, it's an honor.
[Abm] I had loved the album that Kenny [Ebm] produced called Waiting to Exhale.
[Gb] She was so enthusiastic about that soundtrack's production.
That's how her interest in [Ebm] Kenny became known to me.
Fresh [Gb] as the morning air
Barbra said that she loved [Ebm] the song, she loved my voice, and she'd like [Bbm] to do a duet with me one day.
We basically thought that it would be great to [Abm] take her most famous songs that she's [B] done
and try to reinvent them, sort of, in new arrangements [Db] that fit a duet setting.
[Fm] It was just one of [G] those things
[Am] But don't [Em] ever bet me
There's no better high [E] than contributing your gift or your talent
to something that immediately [Em] kind of gives back to the room
and everybody goes like, this is really great.
I'm [C] [E] dreaming
[Am] I'm dreaming
All [C] the things I've not done
A duet with Barbra Streisand was the top of the list.
I've been waiting for this call in Hollywood, California for the last [Em] 40 years.
Can it be that it was [Am] all so simple then?
[Em]
I loved how [Bm] Kenny and Walter came up with these [C] plans of these songs
meaning some of them start with a male voice.
[Am] I don't think I've ever [D] heard a man sing the way we were.
[G] [C] Memories may [Em] be beautiful and yet
I believe that there are voices [C] that go down in history
for [E] the fact that they [G] are absolutely unique and unrepeatable.
Barbra's voice is extremely [Eb] recognizable after the first note.
[Cm] [Bb] [Eb]
[Cm] [Eb]
[A] It's a little intimidating to walk into [G] a studio
and knowing you're going to sing a duet with Barbra [C] Streisand.
It comes down [E] to reality
[Am] I tried with me [Bb] cause I let it [F] slide
Her voice sounds [A] great.
She still sounds like a kid [D] almost.
[F]
[Am] Where in a New York state [C] of [Am] mind
One song at the moment, [Bbm] it had to be you.
We're going to [Ebm] do it all in one pass.
[Bbm] Bones and rhythm section only, 56.
[Abm] This is the way I always recorded [Fm] since my first album.
I recorded with an orchestra.
[B] It's so much fun.
I get inspired by what the orchestra is playing.
We wandered [Bm] around and finally found
[E] Somebody who
[Bm] [E] Somebody you
And [G] nobody else
She [Gm] still sounds like Barbra
but she's kind of taking on [D] the character of this great [Gb] kind of torch [Bm] singer
and she does it with so much [Db] emotion
but every word she means what [B] she's saying.
[Gbm] That's the difference between just a singer
and the greatest storytellers ever.
[Bm] God kissed her [Db] throat and she's blessed with this beautiful [A] voice
but I think what [Bm] makes people fall even more in love with her
is her ability [Em] to tell a story.
[Bm] [A] I had to be [Eb] you
Had to be you
[Bm] It had [Db] to be you
[D]
[A] It's unbelievable how wonderful my [Bb] partners are.
[A] [N]
