All right, let's play, speaking of our buddy Forrest, let's play that tune.
Yeah, yeah.
[Bm] This song is called Forrest Whitaker.
[Bb]
[B] [Eb]
[E] [Gb]
[B] [Eb]
[E] [Gb]
[B] We started a [Eb] fire [E] that was never supposed to burn [Gbm] out.
[B] You started a [Eb]
band that was [E] cool for a while but it [Gb] turned pretty bland.
[B] I started a [Ebm] fight with [Dbm] the [E] neighbor next door and [Gb] his pesky [B] wife.
You started [Ebm] a job that [E] you hate when you're sober [Gb] and hate even more when [E] you're not.
And I [Gb]
know [B] you hate [Gb] me [Ab]
too.
[Gb] [E] You always [Gbm]
say you [B] do.
[Eb]
[E] [Gb]
[B] When you moved to [Eb]
Japan, thought [E] a clean bill of health and [Gb] a camera could show you [B] the plan.
I bought [Eb] a bird that [E] repeats what I say but [Gb] I'm lonely is all [B] that he's heard.
You found [Ebm] a guy [E] that is clearly the opposite [Gb]
me with a black [B] motorbike I [Eb] dicked around.
But [E] it's just like a movie, [Gb] this picture is off with [E] the sound.
And I [Gb]
know [B] you [Bbm] hate me [Ab]
too.
[Gb] [E] You [Gb] always say you [B] do.
[Ebm]
[E] [Gb]
[B] [Ebm]
[E] [Gb]
[B] You started [Eb] to write.
It [E] was subtle at first but [Gb] the danger was clearly [B] in sight.
I don't [Eb]
reply due [E] to lack of an ego [Gbm] and laziness [B] cuts like a knife.
You say [Ebm] that you're good, [E] had a baby with Biker [Ab] and named him Forrest Whitaker.
[B] I'm laying [Eb] low [E] on the bubble, chance [Abm] you convinced me to give [E] him a home.
[Gb] I know you [B] hate [Bbm] me [Ab]
too.
[Gb] [E] You [Gb] always say you [E] do.
[Gb] I know that [B] you hate [Gb] me [Ab]
too.
[Gb] [E] You always [Gb]
say you [B] do.
[Eb]
[E] [Gb]
[B] [Eb]
[E] [Gb]
[N]
I can feel the energy from the internet about that one.
[Ebm] Coursing through its veins.
[N] How does writing songs with Kevin slash Bad Books differ from Manchester?
Do you work out songs differently?
Normally a Manchester song, actually all the time [Ab] a Manchester song takes [Ebm] longer than a Bad Books [Eb] song.
I've never worked in a band like this before where [Ab] we start a [Gbm] song, I'll take you through what a day would be [Gb] making a Bad Books.
[Ebm] We would come in and either Kevin and I has a bare idea [Ab] for a song, the [N] structure for it.
We would start with doing a scratch guitar and a scratch vocal.
Then we'd figure out the structure and right away we'll track drums to that.
Once drums are done, I think we were generally doing a rhythm guitar next.
Then we would do the bass and in about 6-8 hours we start to see a song starting to form.
By 12-14 hours we're done with a tune.
Usually getting about a song and a quarter song and a half done a day is generally how we would work.
The amount of time we have to make these records is also a lot more condensed than on our own.
I think some really cool stuff comes out of that process.
I also think it's amazing that Ben Homola who plays drums, we ride him but he does pretty excellent.
He's hearing the song for the first time and then coming up with what he's doing.
It's wild not knowing a song before you start to record it and then being done with it that day.
Then all of a sudden you've got a record on your hands.
Manchester works a lot differently than that.
How did we come up with the band name?
It's all you baby.
It's all me baby.
What was the old band name?
Ape Priest.
I wanted to call it Good Stories and we called it Bad Books.
