his guitar Lucille.
Now I heard you say earlier someone said how many Lucille's
do you have and you said 16.
Now for we older [Eb] fans we've heard this story before
but if you look around out here there a lot of young fans.
Where did Lucille
come from for the young fans who may not know?
Give [F] me a little talking music guys.
[Ab] I can [Eb] do it?
You can do it.
Okay.
[Db] Back in 1949 [B] I used to play a [G] place, keep it down,
[C] used to play, oh [Abm] god I can't hear so good anyway, [B] I used to play a place out in
Arkansas [Db] a place called Twist, Arkansas.
There is such a place and I used to play
[F] that quite often [G] when I had no other place to play and most times I [Eb] didn't
but it got quite cold there in [C] winter so they used to take something like [Ebm] a big
[Bb] garbage pail and half fill it with kerosene.
[Bb] They would set that out [B] in the
middle of the floor [G] and half fill it [C] with kerosene I should say and light
that [Db] fuel and that's what we use for heat.
[F] Everybody dancing would dance
around it [G] but one night two guys start [C] to fight.
I'm glad they don't do that [Eb] in
New York.
[Db]
Two guys start to fight one knocked the other one over on this
[Ab] container and when that [Eb] container spilled it [Bb] was already burning so [Bb] it
looked like a river of fire.
Everybody [Db] start to run for the front door because
the back door was [Bbm] nailed up, [Db] keep people from sneaking in.
Everybody ran for the
[C] front door including B.B. King.
[E] When I got on the outside then [C] I realized that I
left my [G] guitar and I went back for it.
[Eb] When I did the building was burning
rapidly and [Db] when [Gb] I went back in it started [Eb] to collapse around me and I
almost [G] lost my life trying to save my guitar [G] but I did.
[Eb] Next morning we found
that these two guys was fighting, was fighting about a [Ab] lady.
I never did meet
the lady [Eb] but I learned that her name was Lucille.
[F] I named my guitar Lucille to
remind me never [E] to do a thing like that again.
[Eb] [Ab] [C]
And that's the [N] story of Lucille.
