[Eb] So, a lot of people really love fuzz basses, and I actually think they sound better into
a dirty amp.
I tend to think that's how they were kind of created at the beginning, and so I'm going
to demonstrate that.
So right now I'm playing through a pretty dirty amp.
It's a deluxe reverb.
It's on about 7.5 or 8 or so, and my clean tone sounds [A] like this.
[E] [G]
[D] [A] [E]
Now on this particular fuzz bass, I don't recall why, but the controls are backwards.
So if you watched another [B] video that we did with the fuzz bass, [N]
the controls are backwards.
So the fuzz is actually the volume.
The volume is actually the fuzz control, and I just need to fix it.
So anyways, so with the fuzz bass, here's the sound into a dirty amp.
[G] [Bb]
[E] So
[Gm] [G] [A]
[G]
[D] [A]
the really cool thing about fuzz basses though is how they clean up.
So check it out whenever you roll the volume back.
[D]
[C] [A]
[D] [G] [D]
[Am] [A]
[G] [D]
[G] [D] [A]
[G] [D]
[E] So it almost gets you more like a distortion rather than a fuzz.
However when running a fuzz bass into a dirty amp, I tend to like to brighten it up a little bit.
It sounds like this.
[G]
[B] [Em]
[A] [G]
[A] [G]
[D] [A]
[G] [D]
[A] [Am]
[Ab] [D]
[A] [Bb] [N]
That's with the fuzz bass.
And just for comparison, let's run it through a Big Muff Pi real quick and see what it sounds like.
Two totally different types of fuzz circuits, and you'll see how it reacts completely different
and sounds different.
Alright, this is an old Big Muff Pi.
[E]
[Em]
[Bb] [E] [G]
[D] [A] [G] [E]
[D]
[A]
[E]
[D]
[A] [E]
[D] [A]
[G]
[E]
[N] You'll also notice it really doesn't clean up anything like a fuzz bass either.
[G]
[E]
So that's into the dirty amp.
Let me show you what it sounds like through a clean amp.
Through the deluxe reverb, settings are treble and bass on about 5, and I'm going to, in
the left channel this as well.
So in the left channel, the deluxe reverb.
With the Big Muff.
[D]
[A] [G] [E]
[B] [E]
[Dm]
[E] [G]
[Gm] [E]
[D]
[A] [E]
With the fuzz bass into a clean deluxe reverb, same thing.
Totally different sound.
[Gbm] [G] [E]
[Em]
[C]
[Fm] [C] [D]
[Em] [Eb] [C] [A]
[Eb]
[A]
[G] [D]
So that kind of shows you why I like most fuzz circuits through a dirty amp versus a clean amp.
It also kind of gives you an idea of why I created the Velvet fuzz to go into a clean
amp and get that sort of sound.
