Aoife O'Donovan - Clay Pigeons - Live at McCabe's chords
Start Jamming...
I love writing songs and I [G] also love learning songs that already [C] exist in the world.
Here's a new one that I just learned.
I learned it for [G] a jam session that was going on [Am] hosted [G] by the Bluegrass Situation.
Those guys are based here in LA.
The jam was in Nashville.
Yeah, give it up for Bluegrass [C] Situation.
The jam was [G] in Nashville and [Am] somebody asked me to learn this tune [G] from a John [C] Prine record.
I learned it.
It was written not by John Prine but by a guy named Blaze Foley, [G] a great Texas songwriter who died.
[C] I just think it's one of those gorgeous tunes that people should hear.
It's called Clay Pigeons.

[G]
[C] The sun comes up and down around about two or three times.
Smoke a cigarette in the last seat.
Hide [G] my sorrow from the people I meet.
[C] Get along with it all.
Down where the people say y'all.
Sing a song with a friend.
Change the [G] shape that I'm in.
[C] Get back in the game and start playing again.
[G]
[C] I'd like to stay but I might have to go and start over [G] again.
[C] Go back down to Texas.
Go to somewhere [G] that I've never been.
[C]
Get up in the morning.
Go out at night.
I won't have to go home.
[C] Get used to being alone.
[G] Change the words to the song.
[C]
Start singing again.
[G]
[C] [F] [A] [G]
I'm [C] tired of running around looking for answers to questions I already know.
I could build me a castle of memories just [G] to have somewhere to go.
[C] Count the days and the nights it takes to get back in the saddle again.
Feed the pigeons some clay.
[G] Turn the night into day.
[C] Start talking again.
When I know what to say.
[G] I'm [C] going down to the ground station.
Gonna get sick and try.
Find me a lady with two or three kids [G] and sit down by her side.
[C] Ride till the sun comes up and down about two or three times.
Smoke a cigarette in the last seat.
[G] Hide my sorrow from the people I meet.
[C] Get along with it all.
Down where the people say all.
Feed the pigeons some clay.
[G] Turn the night into day.
[C] Start talking again.
When I know what to [Bm] say.
