[D] Howdy friends and neighbors, my name is Ryan, you are at musicwithryan.com and today I'm
going to show you the lesson Angeline the Baker, one of my favorite old time tunes to
play on the guitar.
And I'm going to do it in D position, it's in the key of D but I'm going to do it instead
of capoing up in D position.
I really like to do some old time tunes in that fashion.
And it's going to have a nice old time feel, intermediate arrangement.
And yeah, let's go ahead and give the arrangement a listen to and we'll walk through it measure by measure.
Alright,
[G] [A] [G]
[D] [G] [Dm]
[B] [G] [A] [G]
[D] [G] [D]
[G] [D] [G] [D]
[G] [D]
[G] [F#m] [D]
so as you see, very straight [N] ahead, beginning intermediate arrangement for Angeline the Baker.
There are some hammer-ons and pull-offs in there but I think you'll find the arrangement
has a great old time feel.
In certain places I did put some syncopation and accenting in there and working on a D
position is a great exercise as well.
So if you like the lesson, you like what you see, I'd ask you to go over to my website
musicwithryan.com and check out all the material I have over there.
You can purchase this full length video lesson and get tabs for it and get two backing tracks
and about 17-18 minutes of full length video.
And I go over a little bit of my rhythm playing at the end too.
I also have an e-book over there if you're interested in that, 25 Tunes to Improve Your
Playing, over 50 pages of [D] music and other arrangements as well for tunes.
So yeah, give that a look and for now though, we're going to go ahead and walk through this
tune measure by measure and give you an idea of how this lesson is going to roll out.
So alright, let's go ahead.
Alright everyone, so yeah, let's go through Angeline DeBaker on the key of D.
Pretty old time tune.
And I'm going to be working on a D position but not quite like this.
I'm going to be changing my fingers around, or my first finger is going to be here, second finger.
And you kind of saw me barring this here which makes another D chord, just a different way
to do it.
[E]
[D] That would be the full shape.
So a [E] little something different here.
[D] Really nice kind of inversion [E] but I put the pinky up there, makes [D] a full D chord, another
way to play it.
[Bm] So really watch your fingerings, they're marked on top of the staff and the right hand is
marked on the bottom of the staff.
[D] So pay close attention to that.
[F] So let's go ahead, start on beat 1 and I'm going to walk through it slowly.
So 1, 2, 3, [A]
4.
[B] [D]
[Bm]
[D] [B] [G]
Alright, I didn't quite figure that last measure like I wanted to but in the first two [D#] measures
you have, [A] [D] [Bm]
[D] so right there you have that hammer on and I'm hammering on beat 1 so sometimes
that can feel kind of tricky, a spot, [G] especially trying to hammer on to beat 1 for whatever reason.
So just make sure you really get a sense of how that [A] feels.
So,
[Bm] [D] [Bm] [D]
[Bm] okay, and the circle [G] around that note is a half note so I'm going to give it two
counts and what I'm really shooting for here is really connected playing.
So I kind of keep this second finger down a lot and some other notes too just to make
so it has a nice ringing effect or kind of a waterfall some people describe it as.
[A] [Bm] [D]
[Bm] [D] 3, [Bm] 4, [Dm] and.
[Bm] [Em] [D] [B] [G]
Okay, so the first two measures again, starting on the G [E] string, second [A] fret.
[G] [A] [Em] [Gm]
3, [Bm] 4, and.
So these two right there.
Then moving forward.
