[G] Oh, I'm sure you're saying to yourself,
what is JB Fletcher [D] doing here in Salt Lake [Eb] City?
[Gb] Well, let me tell you [E] that when I received the invitation
[F] to be a guest of the great [E] Mormon [Eb] Cabernacle
Choir [Gb] for their Christmas program,
my first [E] reaction was, oh [Bb] my goodness, what a lovely honor.
[A] And then I [E] thought to myself, [C] yes,
but what could I [Db] [Bb] possibly bring [G] to this [C] extraordinary [F] yearly event?
[G] Well, many of you [D] have known me for a number of years
for motion [Ab] pictures and [C] more [Ab] recently as Jessica [E] Fletcher
in Murder, She Wrote.
[Db] But you know, before I came to television,
[A] I spent a number of years on Broadway [E] appearing in musicals
like [Em] Mame and [Gm] Gypsy and Sweeney [Em] Todd and, [A] as they say,
singing and dancing [G] and carrying on.
[Ab] Anyway, then [G] came Disney's [C] [D] Bedknobs and [C] Broomsticks,
[E] and that [Ab] brought me back to the movies.
[G] [Bb] [Eb]
And Beauty and the Beast followed,
and I [Abm] was suddenly in an animated [Ab] movie
[Db] as the voice [Gb] of the beloved little teapot, Mrs.
Potts.
[Bb]
And you know, thinking about [Eb] that,
it struck me [Bb] what it was that [D] I could bring to this event.
[Bb] And it was the voice that many of the children of our [G] country
have learned to recognize.
You know, the attacks of the last September [Fm] the 11th
have had an [D] immeasurable impact on the minds
and [E]
indeed the lives of [Abm] millions of children throughout America.
[Em] Their little fears and often secret terrors,
[Gb] they need to be addressed [D] so very carefully.
And all of us, [G]
grandparents, parents, aunts, [Abm] uncles,
we all have to try to do everything that we possibly can
to reassure these [Eb] little ones that they are safe [E] and loved
and that good will triumph over evil and right will prevail.
[C] You know, [Eb] I
[Db]
[Ab] believe this lovely song that [G] I sang in [Eb] Sweeney Todd
by the great Stephen Sondheim really says it [Db] all.
[Fm] [Bbm]
[Eb] [Ab] Nothing's gonna [Eb] harm you, not while [F] I'm [Eb] around.
Nothing's gonna harm you, no, sir, not while I'm around.
[Gb] [Db]
Demons are prowling everywhere nowadays.
[Cm] [Fm]
I'll send [Bb] them howling, I don't care, I've [Ebm] got ways.
[Ab] No one's gonna hurt you, no one's gonna [Bbm] dare.
[Ab] Others may desert you, not to worry, [Db] whistle, I'll be there.
[Ab]
[Db] Demons will charm you with a smile [Cm] for a while,
but [Fm] in time [E]
[Ab] nothing can harm you, not while I'm around.
[D]
[A] Being close and being clever ain't like being true.
[E] [A] I don't need to, I won't never hide [Gbm] a thing from [E] you [Db] like some
[Gb] [D]
[E] [A] No one's gonna hurt you, [D] no one's gonna dare.
[A]
Others can desert you, not to worry, whistle, [G] I'll be there.
Demons [A] [D] will charm you with [E] a smile [Dbm] for a while,
[Gbm] but in [F] time nothing [Dbm] can harm you, [Gbm]
not
[Bm] while [A]
I'm around.
