That sound of music star [F] Charmian [D] Carr or as we know her [Eb] lethal [N] passed away after a long battle with dementia
Well today we're celebrating her wonderful life and the contribution that she made to motion pictures with her co-star
Angela Cartwright who played Brigitte Angela.
Thanks so much for coming in this morning
_ Thanks for having me.
We're so sorry for your loss
You know do you have some fun?
You must have some fond memories of working with Charmian on sound of music
I do and you know just watching that little clip of her singing
She has such a distinctive voice [Bbm]
and it just it brings back a lot of warm [Eb] feelings
We were quite a family for [Gm] over 50 [Dm] years and you still [E] are quite a family
And that's the thing and [Eb] the Nicholas Hammond who lives here and we spoke in the ad break and I would say he want to
Say hi to you.
You just got off the phone to him as well
I mean you all are so close after so long.
Why do you think that is?

[Dm] You know, [Bb] I've [Ab] thought about it.
We are just a very lucky group of people.
I think Robert Wise
_ Made his choices very wisely and we are we call ourselves the non traps
_ _ Boring.
There's nothing like really, you know sensational that's you know happened to us.
That's awful
except of course for this which _
You know, it's it is very sad that we're gonna miss her because as a family
You know, she just won't be [G] there with us, but [F] she'll always be in on film
You know forever that shamian wasn't cast in the role of Liesl straightaway
So tell us about how the producers held out to find their ultimate star Angela
_ _ Yes, they had a hard time finding a Liesl.
I know they interviewed hundreds and hundreds [G] of people
They had cast the six of us and I think [E] they wanted a particular quality
You know a warmth and you know sharmian was certainly _ beautiful and I hear that they were worried about the blueness of her eyes
Which I think were so stunning on screen and she had such a distinctive voice
_ _ She was a bit older than 16 going on 17
I think that might have been a worry but there were so many people that auditioned for her part and you know
She said she didn't have a long acting career afterwards
But she said that if there was one movie that she was gonna do in her lifetime
What could she ask for better than such an iconic film?
Absolutely, and we're looking at her pictures of her now, you know
And she was 21 where she did that film as you said, I mean was she a big sister to you guys?
I mean, how did how did she relate to you as a cast?
_ Well when we were doing the film she was you know
So much older because she was 21 so she kind of hung around the adults and we were just kids
You know acting like [G] kids and going to school every day
But you know as the years went on and we had these celebrations we personally, you know became [C]
friends
And of course that age gap [E] closed [Em] definitely
_ she will always be our big sister and I it's it's what makes us so difficult because
You know, we are [Bm] a family of [C] non traps and [B] it's kind of my altar family, you know
You know Angela what we love about the sound of music is that we all
Watched it growing up and now many people are rewatching it with their own children
Why do you think it is that the film still holds up so well?
[Gb] _
[G] _ It's it wonderful to have a film that appeals over so [F] many years and there doesn't [C] seem to be that kind of gap
Like oh, that's so dated.
I think it's [Bm] the idea that a family [Gbm] can
_ [Db] Gather together, you know, they had tragedy [B] and in the [Db] story
Our [Abm] mother was supposed to have died and the captain was by himself
[Fm] And and then this wonderful governess came [Gb] and [Abm] taught us to sing again.
I mean, it's just an uplifting story
music so beautiful and it was filmed so
_ Fantastically.
Yeah, it is an icon of a film
But you know before you go Angela we did find the audition tape that you did for sound of music and here it is _ _ _

It's too early for blueberries
There were strawberries, but it's been so cold lately.
They turned blue.

_ _ _ _ You are delightful, but you weren't auditioning for the Gator then were you?
No, I was auditioning for Louisa.
They put me in a blonde wig to audition as Louisa and
They cast me as Brigitte and I was happy about that _
[N] I am going to be going back to Austria just this next week and I'm gonna be visiting all those sound of music
Locations again, so it'll be some good memories coming back to me.
Absolutely
