Summer School, 2017, with the fellas, Dutch included.
These boys mentioned our Cali landscape to be very French.
[D#] Rolling hills, vineyards, and birds of prey hovering up above.
The Oasis of Paradise, is how [A#] Niels put it.
And I have to agree.
I think I could live like this.
[F] The fuck am I kidding?
Let's record.
Finish this [Em] record.
[D] [Em] [D] [Em]
[D] [G] So I came back to California, brought the [G#] boys [Em] along to try to make [D] a great record with [Em] Dave [D] Skools.
[G] They roped me back in to this, somehow.
[E] It's all cool.
[D] It'll [E] only hurt for a little [D] while.
I [G] think I saw the movie Anaconda with [E] Ice Cube
[D] too [E] young in my life.
That was scary as shitless.
[D] [Em] Oh, fucking, fuck you, [Fm] John.
I'm going to get back to [F] my roots in California and get back to basics [Gm] and try to [C] write songs that heal.
But the main ones that you [F] have to have is [D#] there and there.
[F] Sean adds something and then Beats adds [F#] something and then, you know, [G] me and Andy, we've been
playing together so long that [F#] we know each other [Fm] and we [G] know also everybody else so [F] well
that it just [G] ends up meshing great.
[F#] [Em] [D]
[Em] [E] [D] [Em]
The band just got way tighter.
[E] We're doing three-part harmonies, [D] barbershop style.
Chemistry's flowing.
We took an old school approach to [G] this whole record, all analog.
[G#] And it's been working.
After ten [E] years of fine-tuning this band and [F#] growing up with [G] these guys, I've felt the
[D] loss of [G#] old friends [A#] and [C] gain of new ones.
Everything [E] happens for a reason.
[E] If it wasn't for them as friends, [G] fans, and occasional [G#] lovers, I wouldn't be the person
I am today as well as having [F] the right kind of stories to tell in my [Em] work.
Stiked!
Have a good session.
You too.
It's a special thing that we have a band that can [G] communicate and gel and get along like this [A] creatively.
So it's [G#] amazing.
It [E] just keeps getting better and better.
I pitched one great game [G] when I was like 13.
[C] I've never pitched a great [B] game ever since.
Outside.
[Em] Motherfucker.
[A] See?
That's what I'm talking about.
[F#]
[G] We just got [E] done tracking four [A#] songs, I think, [G] through this beautiful [E] Neve board.
[Em] Some API Love.
A lot [E] of vintage microphones.
And the room [D] is quite a [Fm] live room.
[E] This is the second session here.
[G#m] And yeah, it's been a [D] blast.
[G] It's far away from [E] anything.
These guys don't feel like they've got to go hit [F#] bars every night.
So they're out here to get work done.
And I get to [A] relax and smoke weed and cook.
[Bm] It's been really great weather.
Nice little fruit trees and plants everywhere that you can [F#] take care of yourself with a little sweet [F#] treat.
[D] It's all flowing very naturally.
Dave Schooles is awesome.
[F#] I was kind of nervous at first to work with him.
But he turned out to be an awesome bloke.
Very fortunate to have Andy and the boys let me be a part of this.
The leadership, the guidance, everything that he has.
His opinions matter.
He's, [B] you know, he is [F#] who he is.
We're all at that level where [D#m] we're finally [F#] talking as one.
This band cooks together on stage, in the kitchen.
It's really [B] collaborative.
It's really [F#] a family scene.
Great tunes.
Great band.
I'm [B] getting older.
I'm transitioning into my 30s, which basically lets you truly appreciate the things you've
nurtured over your [B] life.
[G#] Conversations, laughter, and moments that [F#] create memories are what we all should strive for.
[C#]
The USA!
[F] Bucket!
