I ended up with some turntables and a mixer and a PA system, courtesy of a very, very
kind gentleman who asked me to DJ for his daughter's party.
Just did that one off and that was it.
And then the next time it was her birthday again and he was like, well, how much are
these things to rent?
How about we just buy some and then you can keep on doing parties?
Because there was no way in hell I was going to end up with that equipment by any other means.
So it was kind of literally like, it was sort of like fairy godfather type of thing.
You know, I was out DJing, cutting up hip hop records and funk and soul and stuff like
that at parties and then messing around with a guitar at home and it didn't really occur
to me that I could actually hold down a song.
You know, to me songs were like complicated things [Bm] that I was like, almost like scared [C#m] of.
I can't write a song.
And then [E] just messing around a little bit and just getting carried away vibing out.
[Bm] Slowly, very slowly realised, OK, I guess maybe that's a [F#] song.
[E] [Bm]

And [F#] I needed some proof.
[C#m] I [Em] [G#] think you need [Bm] a dose.
How you look is ruby.
[F#] I said, let's show how you [D#] seem.
[Bm]
Special, how you look ruby.
[F#] I said special, [A] how you seem.

So jazz, [Bm] funk, reggae, hip hop and straight [F#m] up like, I guess pop music for want of a better
word was [G] what I was hearing that was making me [Bm] excited about music.
Wanted to play music.
You know, I was sitting there with a guitar trying to work out.
[C] Let's stay together by Al Green.
You know, at the beginning of secondary school, I [F#] had like [G] four guitar, five guitar lessons
or [E] something, and then I couldn't afford any more guitar [Bm] lessons.
So I was just there with the guitar and no sort of lessons and a really, really, really
[F#m] tiny ability to read [G#] music.
I could just about [C#] identify the notes, but I couldn't actually like play [Bm] it properly.
So, yeah, I was just I was just hyped listening, hearing stuff that was amazing and just wanting
to be able [F#] to just play and just sing songs.
[F] Without having to press play on the tape recorder.
[Bm] Special, how you look ruby.
[F#] I said special, how you [B] seem.
[Bm] Special, how you look ruby.
[F#] Special, how you [N] seem.
