The piano, I'm going to have a little chat with an incredibly talented woman who's got this album out.
Amy Winehouse!
Welcome to our showing.
Well, [G] I suppose with public displays of affection, do you approve or disapprove of them?
I approve wholeheartedly.
Yep.
Now your writing on this record is, it's fantastic, it's really great.
Thank you very much.
Some great songs that you've written on here.
The first one you played, Rehab.
Yeah.
When did you write that one?
I wrote that in February or March in New York with Mark Runson.
We were just walking down the street and I sang The Hook.
And he burst out laughing.
He said, who's that?
I said, I just made [Ab] it up.
And he was like, that would be [G] really cool.
I said, listen, let's go to the studio now.
I couldn't knock it out now.
Went straight there and did it just like that?
Yeah, literally.
It's like your voice has become more powerful, your songwriting has become stronger.
Do you feel all those things are happening?
I'm very proud of this record and I feel that,
unless I could have bettered myself with the last album, I might as well give up.
And it's a great sort of different vibration.
It's got a sort of Motown groove, isn't it?
Yes.
What's the first music that you listened to though?
A lot of jazz, really.
A lot of Sarah Vaughan.
Those are Sarah Vaughan songs.
April in Paris.
But I think one of my earliest memories is listening to my granddad play Tenderly.
My Pop Larry.
He goes to sell Tenderly.
And what did your granddad play an instrument or he'd play it on a record?
No, he'd play it on, you know, a record.
Do you know how to sing that?
Yes.
Would you give that a go?
Yeah.
Should we give Tenderly [F] a go?
[G] Well, I think we should.
Let's get a tempo.
[N] Hang on, hang on.
Could you give us a bit of this?
