Start Jamming...
I had one week where we asked, well you got to choose whatever you wanted to sing on the show for the most part.
But there was one week where you specifically could sing
anything you wanted to with no bias, no input from anybody.
It's like, hey, it's all you.
If you go [D#] home, it's on you.
You [E] know, so and I tell this every time that it's so important that the exec said,
I think they called us in on a Friday.
And they said have it to us by Tuesday night.
Have it your song choice.
And so I was sitting there at the end of the table and they said, so you have four days.
Pick any song you want.
Before, I remember Ms.
Trish was [D#] the exec.
I said, Ms.
Trish, I don't need four days.
I know what I want to do right now.
So if they give you four days, you take five.
Like if you need five.
And so she said, why don't you just think about it?
I said, I don't need to think about it.
If I think about it,
I'll talk myself out of it.
I know what I want to do.
I said, I've had a list of songs that I've wanted to do my whole life.
On a, you know, a broad scale.
If I ever get the opportunity, and I don't know if I'll ever get another one.
So I want to do, What Are You Listening To?
[C] That's what I want to do.
She said, well, [A#]
nobody's gonna know that song.
I said, that's okay.
Keith Irvin will know it.
It's a country song.
I said, I want to do [C] a country song.
I said, I haven't really gotten to up until this point.
You know, just the way that the game played out.
And I said, this is my opportunity to [A#] do it.
So that night I sang it.
And y'all, I'm talking [D#] about
pin drop quiet after I sang it.
Like 2,000 people, [E] not [A] one [B] human pair of ears knew the song.
And Keith turned around to everybody and he said,
[N] Nobody in here knew that song, did they?
I was like, oh crap.
He said, see there, Tria?
You don't sing stuff that nobody, he said, but every one of you are gonna know it in the morning because you're gonna go buy that song.
Because I was watching you and you were listening to it.
And I knew from then I was good.
He approved of it.
So, Namavitz, what are you listening to?
[A] [D] [A]
[Bm] [C#]
[D] [A] [E]
[A] [Bm] [C#]
[D] [E] [Em]
[A] I'm wondering, what are you listening [E] to?
[A] Is it a couple bands, some college town [D] bar?
Where it's nine, nine, nines and [A] their guitars?
Or is it something to [E] get you through?
[F#m] Just a sad song playing on the radio station.
Tears still falling and hearts still [Bm] breaking cause you're hanging on.
[F#m] Is it a love song [D] about someone new?
[E] What are you [A] listening to?
I'd like to [Bm] believe [D] that you're just like me,
[E] trying to figure out how good [A] things go bad.
I don't [Bm] know, but I gotta [D] let it go.
[E] Hey, it's about to drive [A] me mad.
What are you [E] listening to?
[F#m] Is it a couple bands in some college town [D] bar?
Where it's nine, nine, nines and their [A] guitars?
Or is it something to [E] get you through?
[A] Just a sad song playing on the radio [D] station.
Tears still falling and hearts still [Bm] breaking cause you're hanging on.
[A] Or is it a love song [D] about someone new?
[E]
What are you [A] listening to?
[D] Is it a feel good song, gets you driving too [A] fast?
One that gets you moving on past the [Bm] past?
Or the kind that you can't help singing [A] along, singing whoa, whoa, whoa.
[D] Is it headphones on on [A] a downtown train?
Or a window seat on an outbound [Bm] plane?
Is it LA, sunny or Memphis [E] blue?
I wish I knew, I wish I knew.
[A] Cause I'd put that record [Bm] on.
Oh, [D] girl, you know what song.
[E] And I'd let it play again [A] and again.
