[F] Hey everybody, Steve Nixon again with Pianolessonsonline [F#].com.
Thank you so much for joining [C] me here today.
Okay, in today's free piano lesson,
we're gonna learn an [F#] arrangement of Amazing Grace.
Now, this particular arrangement is mostly for [C] beginners
or for people who've only been playing [F#] the piano
for just a few years.
So if that's you, this is gonna fit
really [B] nicely under your hands.
Now, if you're completely new to [G] Pianolessonsonline.com
and have never visited the [F] site before,
I will be notating [G] this lesson
and throwing [F#] all kinds of extra tips.
So if you're watching this [F] video on YouTube,
you can just check [N] out the URL right below this video.
All right, cool.
Let's step over to the piano and get started learning.
Thanks.
All right, so I'm gonna show you guys
how to [F] play this arrangement of [D#] Amazing Grace now.
[D] The first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna play [E] it
so you hear how it [C] sounds,
and then I will teach [F] you hands separately
how to play each part and explain to you
a lot more of the [A#] techniques that are going [G#] on.
Okay, so let's take a listen [D] first.
[G]
[C]
[G]
[D]
[G] [D] [Bm] [G]
[C] [G]
[Em] [G]
There we have it.
That's our arrangement.
All right, let's learn the right [E] hand melody part first.
[A] Okay, so it comes in on one, [Dm] two, three.
Okay, so it [A] comes in on beat three.
All right, we're in three, four [G#] time in Amazing [B] Grace.
A lot of people think that [Bm] Amazing Grace is in four, four,
[N] but it's in three, four.
So here we go.
One, two, [G] D, G.
[D#]
[G] [Em] [D]
Okay, so that's the first part.
And we have D, [G] G, B, A, [G] G.
B,
[A] A, G, [Em]
E, [D] D.
[G] Okay, so [C#] then it repeats pretty much.
[Dm] [G] D, G, [F#] [Bm]
[Dm] A, and this is where it changes, [Gm] B.
Okay, and [F] this is the next part of the melody.
We [G] have B, D, A, G, B, A, G.
[Em]
[D] E, D, [G] D, G.
[G#] [G]
[C] So I'm gonna play the right hand again.
And what I [N] suggest that you do,
what I'm gonna do without calling out the names
of the notes is that you play along with me, okay?
Just see if you can get the right hand.
And you may wanna rewind this a few times, [F] okay?
You know, also I am gonna be throwing the notation
for [F#] this arrangement on [B] pianolessonsonline.com as well.
So you'll [D] definitely wanna check that out.
[A#] But here we go. One, [D] two.
[G]
[D] [G]
[D] [G]
[D]
[Bm]
[A] [Gm]
[D]
[G] [D]
[G] [B] All right, [B] let's learn the left hand part [F#] now, okay?
So we're only gonna be [G] using a few chords in this song.
[Em] And here are the chords.
So they [G] are G,
[Em] E minor, [D] D, [C] C, okay?
The other [C#] two chords that I use are sus chords.
And they're just small [A] variations [G] on the G chord, okay?
So we have, here's the G sus, G, C, [G] D.
And then here's the D [D] sus, which is D, G, A, [G] okay?
And these are, what I'm [A#] doing is I'm taking the third,
[F#] the middle note of the D chord,
and [G] I'm bringing it up a half step instead.
I'm doing the same thing on the G chord.
That's how you build the sus there.
[E] All right, so what we're gonna do now
is I'm gonna just teach you these chords in context
[F] with the melody, and I'll call them out as they're going,
okay, and we'll play the melody just as a framework.
[G] Pretty much just really watch my left hand here.
So we have, so we start out with the G chord,
staying on the G, [C]
okay?
Now we're on the C chord.
[G] Now we're back to the G chord.
You'll notice I have both thumbs on the G chord here.
The reason why is because the G chord, the top note's D,
and the [Em] melody, the top note is D also, okay?
So here's the phrase, the next one, which is G again.
G, [E]
[D] now we have the D chord, two, three.
Well, I'm going from this D chord into [G] the sus,
[F#] and then I resolve it back [C#] down.
So let's check out that part again.
[G]
[A]
[D] D chord, two, D sus, D.
[Bm] [G]
Back to the G chord, G chord, [A] [C] C chord,
[G] G chord again,
and I have the double thumb thing.
G chord again,
[Em] E minor, just a little variation at the end.
[D] E, okay, and then we have [G]
G chord,
and then the same thing, I do a sus on beat three,
back to the G chord there.
And there we have it.
[G] That is our version of Amazing [B] Grace.
Now, if you want the notation for this
and a whole bunch of extra tips,
make sure you visit [E] pianolessonsonline [G].com.
There's all kinds of extra lessons on there as well.
I also have more lessons dealing with [C] sus chords as well.
All right, guys, happy practicing.
[A#] I'll see you at [A] pianolessonsonline [Bm].com, thanks.
