[F#m] [E]
[Bm]
[F#m] You know, people [E] think of the UK as a Christian [Bm] country, but actually less than 3% of the
[F#m] population [A] go to church.
[E]
And if you stop most people in the street, [Bm] they would tell you
that church is dead, [D] dull, and boring, and of absolutely [E] no relevance to their life whatsoever.
[Bm]
And you know, if you drive [F#m] around this city [A] and have a look around, you'll [E] see people
from many different walks of [Bm] life, many different [D] countries of origin.
It's a very [E] metropolitan,
very multicultural society.
[Bm]
And [F#m] very, very [A] few of those [G] people have any kind of God consciousness,
have any understanding that God has a plan for their life, have any understanding of
the life they could be living in God.
[A]
[D] [E] I think we [G] place our faith in lots of [D] different names.
I [G] know that I have [A] in the past, but
they can't give you [Em] what Jesus can [G] give you.
By the time I was [D]
26, I was taking heroin,
and I was smoking crack, and I was drinking every [Bm] day, and I was taking ecstasy, [D] and all
these different [Am] kinds of drugs.
I was a messed up guy.
And I called out to God, and I've
[Bm] never ever been the same since.
The name [G] above every name broke into my life, and [A] from that
day to [Am] this day, I've been free of drug [D] addiction, alcohol addiction.
I've been a new man.
[Em] When I came to Abundant Life [Bm] Church for the first time, [D] myself [E] and my family were really
looking for a place to belong.
[Bm]
We were looking for a place [F#m] where [A] we would [G] be believed in,
where we would be empowered and just help to unpack all that [A] God had in our [D] hearts for
us, not just as a family, but we wanted to be part of something meaningful.
[A]
And there
was an air [D] of possibility about us as we came to the church, as we got full of God, as we
got meeting with people who loved Him, meeting with people who [Bm] believed in us.
[A] We try to be as unreligious as possible.
We try to be [F#m] as unchurchy as we can, and just
boil it all [Bm] down to what is the truth.
The truth is that Jesus is the [G] answer for your
situation.
It doesn't matter where you've been or [A] what you've done, but you can come
and be accepted and be part of our [D] family.
And that means that it's an exciting place
to be.
It's a very [Bm] wild place to be.
Literally [A] anything can happen, but that [Am] kind of makes
it fun.
I [F#m] think it's out of that fun and vibrancy that [Bm] a lot of our music comes, a
[G] lot of the culture of our worship comes.
[A]
[E]
You [B] look around our city and, [Bm] to be honest, you
see a lot of need.
[C#] You see a lot [B] of poverty.
You see a lot of broken homes, a lot [Bm] of broken
lives.
[D] The names [B]
[E] that rule [Bm] our city, it would seem, are the names of depression, [D] [Bm]
are the
names of abuse.
[A] [G]
[A]
[D] People come to our church from all different kinds of walks of life,
going through [Bm] all different kinds of experiences, [A]
and I believe that when we get up there [F#m] and
lead worship, we lead from a [Bm] place of victory, [G]
breaking through the atmosphere [A] of what exists
in this community.
[D] The same God who's given us, us [Bm] guys, a hope and a destiny [G] and a future
can [A] do exactly the same thing.
And it's such an incredible [F#m] privilege, such a point of connection
for people where [Bm] every Sunday or Friday or whenever it may be, [G] that people can encounter
the living God.
We never [A] ever take that for granted.
We see that as a privilege and we
write songs for that reason.
We [G] build teams and build church for that reason, to reach
the [Bm] people and help them gain the light and the [A] hope that God has for them.
You know,
now as a dad raising two young kids here in this [G] city, I want to be part of the solution.
I [Bm] want to be part of the answer, and I'm so excited to be part of a [A] church where we're
about a bigger purpose.
We are about introducing people to Jesus Christ, [G]
introducing people
to Him who is the name above [Bm] everything.
He's the name above poverty.
He's the [A] name above
depression.
He's the name above despair.
He is the name above all those things that are
challenging our city.
[G] And now we get to stand together as the body of Christ, to [Bm] stand up
in this city and say, hey, there is another [A] way.
There is a better way.
You can be a success.
It doesn't matter where you've come from.
It doesn't matter what you've done.
It doesn't
matter [Bm] what's happened in your past.
Jesus is higher [G] than all of that.
Jesus is bigger
than all of that.
Jesus [A] loves you and has an amazing plan for your life.
