Allen Toussaint plays Prof Longhair chords
Start Jamming...
I didn't meet Toots or hear Toots until I was quite grown, but I came up playing Fess
Longhair since I was a very young kid.
As a boy coming up I played it exactly as
Fess did because there were little rules even though it seemed wild and
random, there are little rules that you don't go against when you're really
doing it.
I consider him having about five or six inventions you might say and
as simple as it might appear now it was monumental at that time, one being [F] and [Em] [C] [Em]
[Em] [F] [A]
[C] [Em]
[C] [G] so
forth and so on.
That was [Bb] like a Halo Girl and later on it [C] was
[Em] [Cm] [Am]
and for a kid
eight years old that is very exciting I want you to [Eb] know when you graduate to
sliding [C]
like that and later on he did things [Bb] like and
[C] after all of that and
many other things he came through [Eb] it.
[Eb]
[N] Knocked my socks off.
It never just flooded the airways.
They were always going after something a little more sane you might say, a little more where everyone can know where
one two three four is and Fess it would be all kinds of ways because it was that
that crew coming down the street you could hear that in Fess's [Bb] music you can
see
