All The Collaborations On Tyler, The Creator’s ‘IGOR’ | Genius News chords
Start Jamming...
[A] [G#] [D] Tyler, the creator's highly anticipated fifth studio album, IGOR, was released without
any listed features, prompting an Easter egg hunt of sorts towards collaborators.
To make things both easier and harder at the same time, on Sunday, Tyler posted a photo
with the names of the people involved in the project.
And that's where the fun began.
And while Genius News reached out to Tyler's team for confirmation, here's who we think
is where thus far.
Igor opens with vocals from Philadelphia's Lil Uzi Vert.
Tyler touched on the confusion over Uzi's feature saying quote,
"'Funny Niggas' can't tell that's Uzi singing on [Dm] Igor's [A#]
[A] theme."
[C] [C#] [D]
The second track, "'Earthquake' features a verse from [A] Playboi Carti.
[G#m] [A] And Charlie Wilson on the bridge and possibly Jesse Wilson on the backing vocals.
[E] [G#]
[F#m] [C#m] [G#] [G]
Jesse tweeted that she was on 5 other records,
Running Out of Time, New Magic Wand, Puppet, Gone Gone Thank You, and I Don't Love You Anymore.
And as Genius found, in some places it's backing vocals and full verses on others.
On, I Think, singers to launch noles can be heard throughout the chorus, something Tyler
confirmed over the weekend.
[F#] [A#]
[C#] [G] [Fm] Comedian Gerard Carmichael joins us for the interludes.
Exactly what you run from, [D#] you end up chasing.
Carmichael notably interviewed Tyler after the release of Flower Boy.
When I first heard it and the more I hear it, I feel like the only appropriate question
[G#] to ask you after listening to it is, are you okay?
Is something wrong?
Running Out of Time features Jesse Wilson and not Frank Ocean, who doesn't appear
to be on the album at all.
[Dm] [G] [F#]
Still running out of [F] time.
[E] Singer Santa Gold's ad-libs bounce around New Magic Wand, with backing vocals from Jesse Wilson.
Please don't [F] leave me [E] now.
Please [F] don't leave me now.
[E] Please don't [F] leave me now.
There was some confusion as to whether A$AP Rocky was on the album, but Tyler rebutted
that with a tweet.
On Puppet, Kanye West joins Tyler for [G#] a verse.
No sonny you been tryna [Gm] find your way to me.
[D] A to me is not something that I hate [F#] to see.
British rapper Slowthai can be heard talking over the sample on What's Good, something
he alluded to in a tweet [N] over the weekend.
I see the light.
On Gone Gone Thank You, CeeLo [F#] joins on the [G] chorus.
Love [D]
is [F#m] hard.
[F] Love [C]
[Em] is hard.
[G] Solange seems to be harmonizing on I Don't Love You Anymore, along with Jesse who confirmed
that she's on it.
Tell me [C#m] where the sky is.
[G] Tell me where the sky is.
[F] And Tyler's inspiration Pharrell can be heard on Are We Still Friends.
Nothing, nothing, you don't know how to [N] do for your power is drink so you cannot go through.
There are several collaborations that we and many other people remain unsure of, like the
singer LaRue, composer Kevin Kendrix and Jack White.
This confusion extended to even the people who worked on the project.
The record, at any given moment I really didn't know who was on the record because how he
would record the artist.
That's Neil Pogue.
He was the mixing engineer behind Igor, Flower Boy and a number of classic OutKast records
like ATLiens, Aquemini and Speakerboxx's Love Below.
Pogue says Tyler uses features in a unique way.
Pitch it up or pitch it down or use it in a certain section.
More of like an instrument than a vocal.
A note on Igor's cover says that the project was produced, written and arranged by Tyler
the creator and it's clear that he used the features as a tool to craft a greater narrative.
Pogue says that this is because Tyler wants the focus to be on the entire project, instead
of just a few features.
My take on it when he first played the demos for me is I told him that it sounded like
an abstract painting.
In fact, Tyler tweeted these instructions for Igor's consumption saying quote.
Don't go into this expecting a rap album.
Just go jump into it.
I believe the first listen works best all the way through.
No skips.
Front to back.
So who do you think is on which song?
Let us know.
I'm Jacques Morel with Genius News, bringing you the meaning and the knowledge behind the music.
Peace!
