[F#] So now I will show you this famous dance of the Tarantella, which I [N] was talking so much about.
[G]
I think I'll demonstrate the one that I was [G#m] describing as a cure, the healing trance dance.
It's called Pizzica [N] Tarantata.
Pizzica means bite and Tarantata is the name of the woman afflicted by the bite of the tarantula.
It's a very fast 6-8 rhythm with different accents [E] and usually it's danced for a long
[G] time, first on the floor and then spinning [D] and getting the poison out of the body and
cutting the imaginary web.
So here it goes.

[N] Every day and three nights, no.
Imagine how fast it is.
So because it's such a fast rhythm, when I teach of course it has to start from a very,
very slow rhythm like everything.
And again, this is a very interesting technique because it's one hand, but it's a very strong
and powerful technique, mainly related to your relaxation of your wrist [F#] and the arm
going up and down as you're striking the center of the tambourine with your thumb, where all
the accents come from in the beginning.
That's where the calluses [N] are.
And then you rotate your hand up to get that second sound of the tricot.
So the more loose you are, the [B] better this foot, [F#] the hand is going to rotate all the
way up and then you [N] go straight down with your fingertips to get that third sound of
the triplet and the fingertips are closed.
So you get
That's in slow motion.
So it's thumb, rotation of your hand, fingertips down.
Thumb, rotation of your hand, fingertips [A] down.
And a very, very continuous motion.
[N] Very, very slow.
So once you understand that, you can get faster, [F#] which usually doesn't happen [F] right away.
So in the beginning it's a slow [G#] process.
But the main thing is [F#m] to really have a strong thumb because then there are many accents.
[B] So the typical one is
[N] And that's coming here from my thumb.
Then the other important part is the motion of your wrist, which is one of the things
that I think I [D#] specialize in compared to other players [F#] in the Idol League.
I emphasize very much this [A#] motion.
It [N] won't tire you, it makes you more relaxed and also because it gives you more sound when
you combine this.
One is without the wrist, [D] this is how it sounds.
[G] [D]
[A#]
So the main thing to get to a speed is to relax.
[G]
Also an exercise that I give students is just to practice doing this.
And [G] really make this arm go up and down.
And [C] then there are accents for all kinds of [G] Tarantellas.
And one that I was doing before [A] starts with one.
[G] [B]
[F#] [F] That's the Pipsica.
[E] Then the last thing I'd like to add is that there are [N] variations that are done with slap
and triplet rotation.
[D] So one that is done in Carnival, like in Brazil [N] we have a big Carnival celebration, it's called
Monte Maranese and it's this crazy.
