This is a short film about the making of sparks of ancient light.
The album to me is about certainty and uncertainty and how you go from one to the other.
Lord Salisbury [Ab] said to me, though we [Ebm] spend our lives in [Ab]
isolation,
Go around by the emerald sea, no fish are we known.
One rehearsal [Eb] with everybody, two rehearsals with Al, and less [E] than two weeks to learn like twelve songs.
[Ebm] After these processions, comes [B] the sweeping up, [Abm] the rag and bone possessions,
[Bb] An old tin cup,
[Ebm] the army trucks have hauled away [B] the newly slain.
[Abm] The angry mob [Eb] retreats, [Bb] but they'll be back again.
[B] And the [Eb] prisoner in the [F] palace does not [Bb] understand,
[B] This ingratitude [Eb] around him, after all he's done unplanned.
[Ebm] But if this is [Gb] the way that it [Abm] must be, then he'll be damned,
[Ebm] If you will let them take [Bb] away his perfect dream.
If [Fm] you look at Cagolan Island on a map, I mean it's [Eb] unthinkable that you could [D] be that far from everything.
Imagine if you lived in say Dublin [Db] and your nearest neighbour was in New York City.
[Eb] [Ab]
[Ebm] You put your tongue in the [Ebm] ear of the night, expecting rejection but finding instead,
A sudden connection that left you surprised and it gave you electrical [Bb] thoughts in your head.
I sat [A] down at the piano and wrote that song in about ten minutes and it just [C]
seemed funny to me so I thought I'd play it to you.
[Gb] A big football fan out?
No, I knew nothing about it, nothing at all.
[Bb] They should make the girls bigger because I mean [Eb] they
[Ab] [Db] [D] I believe that Neville has got [A] some more questions.
I'm contractually obliged to make you sit down with him [Eb] now, it's in the contract.
[Bb] My understanding is that he took quite [Ab] a set of ships and they sailed [Cm] down the Thirty Packs,
recurring with the first people [Ab] from the Mediterranean region to do so.
[Eb] And it's very hard to find out in terms of things about him,
but everyone seems to agree that he was one of the first great explorers.
Steer by the light of your favourite star, down [Bb] along the coast of [Eb] Africa.
The first Phoenicians on the speech, were monkeys jibber on the [Cm] parakeet's screech.
Strangest women run [Eb] wild down there, covered head to foot in [Eb] fur and hair.
They fight like demons but I'll let them be,
I know the navigator said [Ab] to me
I like a lot [A] of them, you know.
I have to like them because I put a lot of effort [D] into rewriting them.
I think you would [Db] probably, and I don't know, I can't swear to this,
but there must be what, [Gb] 50,000 people out there making music and making records,
and if you can find another one who's just written a song by Lord Salisbury I would be very [Db] impressed.
I got a letter, [Bbm] it came in the [Db] mail,
I could tell [Gb] by the sound, it was sent from an ocean away.
[Bbm]
[Gb] Knowing it too well, [Ebm] I found out I knew [Eb] what it must say.
[Db] [Gb] I just got [Ebm] back to the dream I was having, [Db] before love [Ab] went astray.
[Db] I'll sit on my porch like William McKinley,
[Bbm] I'll f*** the [Bb] world as it speaks,
And if it's too [Ebm] busy I really [Eb] won't care,
