[D] Born [Eb] April 13, [D] 1946 in [N] Forest City, Arkansas, to Robert and Cora Green, the sixth of ten
children, the son of a sharecropper, Al began performing at age 10 in Forest City, quartet
called the Green Brothers.
Touring in the 1950s in the South until his family packed up and moved to Grand Rapids,
Michigan, where they began touring around Michigan.
Green's father kicked him out of the group when he called Green's listen to Jackie Wilson,
one of Green's inspirations, as well as Wilson Pickett, James Brown and one of my favorites, Sam Cooke.
Al Green's debut solo LP released in 1967 on the Hotline imprint called Pickup Train,
gaining him the attention of legendary producer Willie Mitchell.
Willie hired Green as a vocalist for a Texas show with his band and asked him to sign with his label.
Green's debut [B] album with High Records, Green [N] is Blues, released in 1969, enabled Green
to show off his powerful and expressive voice, obtaining moderate success.
It wasn't until 1972 when Green achieved his greatest success with his Let's Stay Together
album, which peaked at number one on the Soul Albums chart and held that position for ten weeks.
This album helped Green embark on a string of critically unsuccessful albums.
[Gm] Al [Bb] Green's 1973 [Bm] Call Me album, [Em] Wally regarded as a masterpiece and considered [G] one of the
best soul albums ever made.

[E] While Green was taking a [N] shower, White took a pan of boiling grits and poured it onto
Green, causing burns on Green's back, stomach, and arms.
After, she went and found Green's pistol and killed herself.
Green cited this incident as a wake-up call to change his life, [Am] becoming an ordained [Db] pastor
at the [E] Full Gospel [N]
Diabolical located in Memphis in 1976, delivering services down the street from Graceland.
According to Glide magazine, by the late 1970s, Green had begun concentrating exclusively
