African Elvis brings country music to Kenya - BBC News chords
Start Jamming...
[Em]
Guys, when they walk into my show, [E] they had been believing when they heard the sound that
probably it's [B] a white guy from the west doing country.
Thank you very [E] much.
[G] [G]
[F] We are in Nairobi [G] city in Kenya.
Yes, and this is where we usually have our Sunday evening concerts.
[C] I was born the year that Elvis Presley died.
So when [D]
my mom gave [G] birth to a baby boy, she wanted the baby [G] boy to be named Elvis.
[C] I'm a country music artist.
Country music has been here since the 50s and 60s.
Sometimes it's a [Bm] pleasant surprise to many people, but then when they [G] walk in and actually
realize [C] that I'm an African [F] and it's really crazy [C] for us.
Listen to a lot of country music [C] because my parents [D] loved to listen to [C] country.
And we had country vinyls and cassettes all over [F] the place.
[C] There are several [Am] guys who went to the [Em] US for education program.
And when they came back [G] home, came back home with some country songs,
[C] that was way back
then and country was big.
This is my [D#] pretty good guitar.
It's an acoustic Yamaha.
We are kind of like a farming country mainly.
[F#] So that [E] is one of the aspects about the country [C] music that actually speaks to us.
[N] We are farmers.
And so we resonate with that.
[B]
I moved to Norway in [E]
1986.
I stayed in Norway from [B] 1986 until 2002, December, when I was back.
I wanted to come back home.
I also felt that because people in Kenya love country music, it would be ideal if we did
country music from Nairobi.
