[Ab] [B]
[Bb] Hey everybody, this is [Ebm] Ken for Torrance.com.
Now I'm going to show you how to play the song, Bollywood song called, Ae Dil He Mushakil.
I hope I pronounced that correctly.
So the key would be [Gb] G flat major, [Ab]
[Gb] but with the tonality of the song, [Ebm] it's actually more
like E flat minor.
[F]
[Eb] In the beginning of the song, there's this E flat and B flat open fifth, kind of quarter
note pulse for four bars.
So it's one, pretty simple there.
But now in the fifth bar, the right hand piano part comes in.
Let me play that for you first, and then I will show you how the lick works.
[Ebm]
[F] That's it.
It's a two bar phrase.
So it starts with two [Ebm] B flats, and then goes an octave, and then goes back to the B flat,
and then A flat, back to the B flat, G flat, back to the [Bbm] B flat, F, back to the B flat,
F, back to the [B] B flat, G flat, [Bb] A flat.
So as you can see, this [Ebm] line, [F]
that's our line.
But what happens is when you hit those notes, [Ebm] you start with the two B flats and then go
up to the top, and then start going from the high note back to that B flat.
So it's kind of jumping back and forth like this.
Now if you notice, when you start the pattern over again, you hit three B flats in a row.
So just be aware of that.
When you repeat the pattern, you're going to hit three in a row right here.
I would suggest doing this on a loop for a while.
And that happens four times.
So that's our piano intro.
Now let me show you what I'm doing with the left hand.
So with the left hand, [Eb] we keep those open fifths we had in the beginning, but it changes
slightly once we add this part here.
So let me show you what happens.
We keep our open fifths for the first half of [Ebm] the lick.
When we get to the F, now we move to [Ab] E flat and A flat.
So it's a [Eb] fourth.
[Ebm] [Eb] So [Eb] our left hand goes A flat, A flat, B flat, A flat.
So the left hand by itself will go, and then repeat that.
And then back to E flat, and then C flat, open [B] fifths, and then B flat, open [Bb] fifths.
And then, so you see I went to G flat there for the last one.
Practice your hands separate, but then when you put them together, it will [Eb] sound like this.
[Ebm] [F] [Ebm]
[F]
[Ebm]
[B] [Bb]
[Ab] Let me play it a little slowly so you can watch my fingers and see kind of how things are moving.
Now a lot of times the left [Eb] hand, when it changes, will emulate the [Ebm] right [Eb] hand with
the motion like this.
See I'm going F, F.
So a lot of times when the left hand [Ebm] changes, the right hand will
also be kind of changing similarly and moving similarly.
