Hi, this is Ace Frayle and you're watching Ultimate Classic [A] Rock.
[B] [C#m] [A]
[B] [E] I'll tell you [A] the story behind Shake and Chop Shooter.
Into the Void on Psycho Circus
used to be called Shake and Chop Shooter.
That was a song that I had originally wrote with that music
and Paul and Gene didn't think it was working
with the rest of the songs on the record.
So, you know, they were ready to pull that song.
So I said to Gene, give me a half an hour
and I went up into another room at the studio
and I wrote all the lyrics for Into the Void and boom.
You know, I work good under pressure.
[C#] Oh
[B] no, no.
That was the only one.
I had submitted a couple of others, but you know,
I've never really brought those to fruition.
The, you know, Psycho Circus,
I had very limited involvement.
You know, I wasn't invited to the studio.
You know, when you hear Paul and Gene talk about it,
it's like I didn't show up or, you know.
The reason I'm not on any of the songs
is because I wasn't asked to be on them.
You know, whereas they try to make it look like
I was absent, you know.
I just wasn't invited to any of the sessions.
[G#] There's [A] [N] an interesting story behind that.
You know, some people think that I tried to do it
to outdo Kiss and ironically, you know,
Holly Knight, who was one of the co-writers of that song,
was a friend of mine and she recommended that song to me
and sent me the demo when I was getting songs together
for that album.
And independently, Kiss decided to cut that song.
I had no idea they were tracking it.
They had no idea I was tracking it.
After I recorded it and it spent thousands of dollars
on the production, you know, Gene calls me up and says,
could you please take that off your record
because we're putting it out as our first thing.
And I said, no way.
And there was that competition going on
when both came out around the same time.
And some people favored mine, you know, whatever.
[Bm] [G#] [A]
[B] [N] The Kiss makeup that I designed is so distinctive.
You know, I don't think I could top it.
And you know, I didn't even want to go there.
You got to remember, I was wearing that makeup
for I don't know how many years.
And it got to the point where, you know,
I got to put this on again.
So when it came time to leave the band
and when I had made that decision,
I really had no desire to put makeup on again.
And I still don't to this day, you know.
I mean, you know, if the price was right,
yeah, I might do it.
But you know, it's really a big pain in the ass,
to be [A] honest with you.
