Almost Lover is the first song that I really wrote by myself.
It was the first song that I sat down on the piano
and I couldn't particularly play yet.
So I just kind of plunked it out, but I had to get it out.
It was one of those songs that just came and it was there.
But I remember when I recorded it the first time just by myself,
I actually had a breakdown afterwards
because I thought, you know,
if people don't respond to this,
if people don't like this or understand this,
I don't know what I'm going to do
because I don't think I can be any more honest than this song.
And that was the start of it.
From there I couldn't do anything but write purely from the heart
and be genuine, I guess, in my music.
