It is the Weenie Roast and I am with Peanut, Nick and Ese from 311.
Guys,
thank you for being here and it's great to see you.
Good to see you too.
[Eb] All right, Peanut, it's been a very, very long time.
I'm just going to start off with
very [Db] hard-hitting journalism.
Do you have high hopes for the Lakers?
[Abm] I like our consistent, we're going to get number two picks the last three [C] years.
Yes.
It's got to build into something.
[Fm] Maybe after a decade or so we'll have an awesome team.
So [E] in 2021 we'll be getting another ring.
That's when I'll stop wearing so much black.
There you go.
I like that.
He's been in mourning.
Guys, it is so exciting.
Anytime we have new 311.
But when you get a new 311 track called
Too Much to Think and within 18 seconds [Eb] you're like, this thing rules.
[E] Thank you.
Do [Db] you know when you're making a song, [E] oh, this is going to do great.
This is our deep,
our hardcore fans will love this?
Or is that something that doesn't cross your mind?
I think with quantity comes quality.
So you [Ebm] just have to write a whole lot of songs and
see what has, [E] you know, catchiness or hookiness that we stumbled onto in the song.
[Ebm] It's not
something that you can really try for.
It's just, it's kind of by chance.
[G] But [Gb] yeah, we
knew we had something [E] when we were done with this one, I think.
And Jon Feldman is part of this track.
Is that correct?
That's right.
He helped write it and produced it.
And is that easy to bring somebody in, not for production, but to hear their thoughts
on lyrics and when they actually contribute?
Are you guys, is that easy to let someone
in on that essay?
Well, with him, it was.
He sort of, I don't know, placed himself in the mix in a way that
it was going to be there.
He's kind of a [N] whirlwind of excitement and espresso.
A little bit.
So much caffeine.
Let's try this.
Let's do this.
Let's do this.
It was insane.
You wouldn't imagine how much work we could get done in that span of time.
It's just incredible.
He's on fire.
It was fun to work with him.
And he set us up.
He
was like, you guys are going to have to let go a little bit.
And I was like, yeah, finally.
Like we can let go.
And this is the perfect person to let go for.
Dan from Imagine Dragons is waving.
Hello!
Kisses.
Yeah, there he goes.
I'm looking forward to seeing them tonight.
Is that 12 studio full-length albums?
Yes, it is.
Holy mackerel.
Is there a way to summarize, is there such a theme to an album or are they
just a collection of songs that you guys think rule?
Well, I think the spirit on this album has been groundbreaking.
That's what we wanted
to do, is make sure we're going into new territory and not repeating [B] ourselves.
And sometimes
[A] the pendulum swings back and forth.
We're like, let's go a little more rootsy.
And this
one is progressive and groundbreaking.
So that was kind of the touchstone to see if
the [G] song would make it, if it felt new.
And we get into, we're always just speaking from
the heart in the subject matter.
There's songs about, we're all like dads now.
So there's
just different experiences to [Dm] draw from.
I'm curious if there is an order, [Gm] songs, [C] fans, or work ethic.
In the order, what has been
the most important, which is the reason why you guys have had the career you had?
Put
those in order.
Well, [B] you wouldn't have the fans without the songs.
But the [G] fans have stuck through that
pendulum of good and bad songs as we're looking to go to the future and not repeat ourselves
and still make ourselves happy ultimately.
So [D] it would be songs, fans, and then what
was the third one?
[F] Work ethics.
Yeah, we could work harder.
No, I don't believe that at all.
I think we could.
We're from Nebraska.
Always work harder.
And [Am] that means we work hard.
We do, but I don't know, with Feldman, that was a new level.
Like how fast he worked with
his Boy Wonders, his little mixologist team that he has.
A new level of work.
[C] Yes.
There's another gear.
There is.
[Dm] We've got a lot of output, but still, we could work harder.
[D] [G] What about 311 Day from here going forward?
Is this something that will be bi-yearly,
tri-yearly, yearly?
Because the fans always want [Bb] this.
And it's such a huge amount of
work to do, but [F] it's always a success.
Nick?
Well, when you mention 311 Day, you've got [Gb] to talk about the time that you put on the
big head [D] and walked around on stage.
What was your The jester?
The jester.
And there was a Tony Danza, a huge Tony Danza head.
Forever Tony Danza.
When we played the song Random, you and a couple other friends came [Bb] out and did that.
At 311 Day in New Orleans.
That's right.
But our year looks like summer.
We [D] haven't been home in July forever.
We work
the albums and stuff around summer tour, but then in the spring, we rotate between a cruise
one year, and then the following year will be a 311 Day.
So we just did a cruise, so
next spring will be a 311 Day.
We're trying to decide [G] where to do it, because it's at
a few different locations.
Stay tuned at 311.com for that.
But 311 Day is special because we
[B] always take musical chances.
We had [F] a gospel choir with us last time.
We've had an [G] orchestra
with us.
We've [Abm] had percussion ensembles.
So it's the most musically adventurous we get
to [Dm] be, and then also go crazy with the production and be [D] anything we want to try, because it's
such a special [E] show and there's tons of people there.
So [Dm] it's a [D] good time.
Essay, I'm worn out after one interview, and all I have to do is ask questions.
You are
on stage for all these years going so crazy.
Is there some sort of hamstring stretch you
can show me or Achilles' non-thing or something?
You know, the whole key, it's like a sports team, man.
Rock and roll is a sports game.
And especially if you're touring, like we tour, you've got to maintain some sort of
physical regimen in the off-season.
You've got to hydrate, because he sweats.
[F] Oh, dude.
Yeah, man.
This is the biggest puddle.
It's about to happen.
You'll see.
[Dm] You just wait.
[D] You'll be able to see it.
I'm sorry that my head was going this way for so long.
I like the back of your head.
Hey, I play bass.
I don't give a
But you slap that thing so well, right? Exactly.
Is there a date for Mosaic yet?
June 23rd.
June 23rd.
Mosaic is coming out.
Thank you for the relationship over the years.
You thought you could stump me?
I thought I could.
You just said stoner bass player.
I thought you would [E] just be like, I don't know.
Few numbers I still have in my head, yes.
Because it's important.
It's going to be a great day.
That's going to be a huge day.
Yep.
You're going to be listening to it all day.
[Gb] And I will.
And hopefully the day before I'll be hearing it.
Yeah, that's actually true.
[F] 420, when the new Mosaic comes out.
Alvarez is right there.
Alvarez, do you have any last words for everybody?
Tell us before we have a spot.
She did a great job of interviewing us on 311 Day.
That's [E] right.
This last time.
I just [Gb] watched Large Show Detail.
I watched the TV the other day.
You.
You're something.
[Eb] You.
[Db] Still is.
We're working on number three in Large Show Detail 3.
And I'm just glad I didn't say any bad words because we've done this before and I got in trouble for saying bad words.
I caught myself.
And we're almost done and I haven't said any bad words.
No.
So that was [E] about eight or nine years ago.
And do you mind if I say what happened afterwards?
You called and Nick said a bad word on the radio.
This has happened many times in people's lives.
Nick called and apologized and was so sincere.
He's like, I'm so sorry that I swore on the radio.
I hope everything's okay.
I really appreciated that.
Well, thank you.
Mother F-ers.
Well, we're well raised boys.
Yes, you are.

What was your_ The jester?
I don't give a_
But you slap that thing so well, right?
S.A.,. Nick, they're peanut. Tim [B] Mahoney and Chad are also 311. And I'm Striker. Thank you guys for playing Weenie Rose and congratulations on everything. [Eb] Thank you. [N] _
