Hey, what's up?
This is Joel here at the Chicago Music Exchange.
Today I get to showcase for you a very, very special piece.
This is a 1957 Fender Stratocaster,
previously owned by Richard Gere.
It was part of his personal collection that he auctioned off for charity just a few months back.
Probably has more mojo than any Strat I've ever played in my life.
Absolutely one of the most resonant Fenders, that's for sure, that I've ever played.
As far as originality goes, all the electronics are all original.
There's a couple slight modifications.
There was some solder retouch up on the volume pot,
and then one of the pickup leads was extended with a little red wire.
Also, there's a small crack in the neck joint that was repaired at some point a long time ago,
well before we acquired this.
The finish, the clear coat's been sanded down pretty low,
so it still has a glossy look to it,
but I think that's part of why it's so resonant and it rings so well,
just because it has been sanded down a little bit less.
As far as the wear, all the typical spots that you'd expect,
but it's all very smooth on the back, on the back contour next to your body,
and then where your arm hits in the front.
Clearly, it's worn off a little bit up here on the left horn.
Not a lot of checking, actually, other than just some nicks and dings.
It's mostly just typical wear, really smooth.
The neck, really good condition.
There's some checking on the back of the neck, and obviously some wear.
You can see where they spent time on the front here.
But as far as how it feels, one of the best necks I've ever played on a Fender.
It's definitely a vintage, like a V-shape.
It's a deeper V.
It's pretty big, like a beefy neck,
but the V itself is so pronounced that it doesn't feel very thick in your hands.
It's actually extremely quick, but there's still enough beef there
that you can actually feel it resonating in your hand while you play.
All right, so we're going to be giving this thing a test drive today,
running it through the brand new Fender Vibro-King.
