Hi, I'm Marci [Fm] Marcher and this is the instructional version of the 12th Street Rang.
So it's in the key of C.
For guitar players picking up a ukulele, think of a G chord.
But for ukulele [C] players, C chord.
And the first part of the melody starts all on the high string.
So you're [Am] actually not working very hard.
Those [B] are all the notes.
Very straightforward, but when you strum all the strings, it sounds a lot fancier than that.
And I just [C] strum with one finger, up and down, generally, unless I do a flourish.
[Em]
Great, first line.
Second [G] line, go to the G7 chord.
For guitar players, it's like a D7 position.
And you want to play the same three melody [Dm] lines, but you need to add these two notes.
[C] So I play them with my little finger [G] and my ring finger.
[Dm]
[Em] So I put that together and I get
[G]
And [Dm]
then you can either hang out on that chord or do a little flourish, which is like this.
Strum down with your fingers, strum down with your fingers, [G] up with your fingers, and back [Dm] down.
So it's just this.
Now, it might take a little practice.
If you want to get really fancy, just keep that going as a roll.
Okay, so then the next line is back to [Em] the original line.
[Dm] Syncopate it a little bit.
We'll consider that the beginning of the tune, or it'll sound odd.
And then stay on this G7 chord.
Next line.
And then go back to your C chord [C] for the next line.
And that's the whole first half of the tune.
Sounds like you're working hard, but you're not.
[G]
[Dm] So [G]
[Em]
[C] that repeats twice.
Then you play the C chord with this melody note.
Now, you can play these with any fingers that feel comfortable.
Third fret, and then bounce off the fifth fret.
Go back to the C7 chord.
Only one finger.
[F] Go back to your F chord.
For guitar players, it's like the first two.
And your C diminished.
[C]
Now, diminished [Ab] chords repeat every three frets up the neck of this [B] instrument, like a guitar.
So I use the next one, too.
I don't have time to reach any more.
[Ab] And then, [C] C chord.
[F] [G]
[C] D7.
[Dm] [Am]
[C] Do the whole thing slow.
Okay, so I'll do the whole thing slow.
[Dm]
[G]
[C]
[G]
[Dm] [Am] [Dm]
[Am] [D] [G] [Eb] [Ab]
[Dm] [C] [G] [C]
[G]
[Dm] [G]
[C]
[F] [Am] [Eb]
[C] [Dm]
[G] [C] [Eb] [Dm] [C]
So there's one more thing in there that I need to show you.
[Em] That's this.
[Ebm] [Dm] [C] Okay.
[Dm]
[Ab] [Ebm] [Dm] [C] We started with our first finger on the third fret.
[Ebm] [Dm] [C] And there was this chord, [D] which is
That's a D7 [Gb] chord.
I added a note, and took it away.
[D] So I'm going to [C] play it one more time.
[G]
[Dm] [G]
[C]
[Am] [G]
[Dm] [C] [Dm]
[Gb] [G] [Cm] [Dbm] Okay, so I'm going to play it one more time.
[F] [G] [C]
[G] [Dm]
[C]
[F] [Am] [Ab]
[C] [Dm] [C]
[B] [Dm] [Am] [C] Okay.
Be sure and [E] take a big bow and accept lots of applause, flowers, and possibly even champagne at the end of this tune.
[N]
So it's in the key of C.
