come as a surprise [G#] to you because this [B] version is so iconic.

of all time [B] and making Dolly's wallet very happy.
[A] Next up is another pretty well-known cover, but if you took part in that era [G] of Aaron

[D] [B] Want Candy was originally recorded by the Strangeloves back in 1965 and has been [D] covered
by several artists since, but the most [B] familiar cover is by early 2000s heartthrob Aaron Carter.
Aaron covered [D] the song in 2000 and famously performed it on the Christmas episode of Lizzie
[B] McGuire back in the day that was.
Can you believe [A] over 14 years ago?

Next up is [G] Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper.
Or so you may [D] have thought.
You've heard [F#] it.
[D#m] [C#]

And in case you're as confused as I initially was when [G] I found out the song was originally

Cyndi ended up slightly changing the lyrics [B] to make it more feminine.
Moving right along [D] to yet another cover that may surprise [B] you, it's no doubt's version
of It's My [C#] Life.

[F]
[Am] [F#] [B] You may be familiar with a few artists who've covered this popular track, including [D] Jeff
Buckley, [F#] John Cale, Rufus Wainwright and many others, [B] but the original was written and performed
by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard [D] Cohen and was released in [B] 1984.
This next cover song you should know is a cover, and [A] yes, I'm shamelessly judging you
if you thought otherwise, but we [G] had to include it because this was a popular version that

[D]
And speaking of rock and roll, let's [B] talk about the commercialized king of the genre,
Elvis Presley.
I'm sorry Elvis fans, [D] I love me some Elvis, but he was not [F#] the real king of rock and [B] roll
because have you ever heard of Chuck Berry?
Do some research and educate yourselves, and if that surprises you, [F#] you [B] may be shocked

her debut solo album [G] Love Angel Music Baby.
_ Next up is Hallelujah, [D] aka the song everyone became obsessed with [F#] from Shrek.

_ [Am] _ _ _ _ [F#] [B] You may be familiar with a few artists who've covered this popular track, including [D] Jeff
Buckley, [F#] John Cale, Rufus Wainwright and many others, [B] but the original was written and performed
by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard [D] Cohen and was released in [B] 1984.
This next cover song you should know is a cover, and [A] yes, I'm shamelessly judging you
if you thought otherwise, but we [G] had to include it because this was a popular version that
could have easily [D] been mistaken for the [B] original.

_ _ _ [G] _ [A] Britney _ _
[B] _ _ _ [D] _ recorded I Love Rock and Roll in 2002 and performed it in her movie Crossroads from
the same year.
But in case you're thinking Joan Jett and the Blackheart's [B] 1976 version was the [E] original,
think again my [D] friends.
[D#] _ _ [Fm] _ _ _ _ _ [G#] _
_ [F] _ [C] _ _ _ _ [G#] [G] It was these long-haired cuties otherwise known as Alan Merrill and the Arrows who recorded
the original in 1975.
Do some research and educate yourselves, and if that surprises you, [F#] you [B] may be shocked
to find out that this next song was [E] not an Elvis original. _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [Em] _
_ [F] _ _ _ [G] I haven't been this baffled since I found out Columbus didn't discover America, [D] but
all jokes aside, Hound Dog was originally recorded by a 25-year-old rhythm and blues
singer named Willie Mae Thornton, also known as Big Mama.
[Gm] _ _ _ [D#m] _ Throw _
_ _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ [D] _
that one in a round of trivia.
[B] Next up is yet another throwback you may be shocked to find out is a [G#] cover.

_ [A#] Whether _ [Am] _ _ you recognize this song [G] from the Ice Cube movie Are We There Yet, or Ashley Banks
singing it in [D] The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air repeats, you know this [F#m] song.
[B] Respect was made famous by Aretha Franklin after she recorded it [D] in 1965, but the song
was written [F#] and originally [B] released by Otis Redding.
The versions are [D]
drastically different and it was actually Aretha who added the famous
chorus where she [F#] reminds [B] us how to spell respect.
This next undercover cover [D] is from our girl Beyonce.

[D#m] _ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ [F#] _
_ _ [C#] _ _ _ [D#m] That's [Am] _
right, [G] B's hit If I Were a Boy off her I Am Sasha Fierce album was [D] previously
written and recorded by a singer-songwriter [F#] named [B] B.C.
Jean.
However, Jean's version was rejected by her record company [D] and Beyonce later recorded
her own version.
[B] And lastly, I'm almost positive that this undercover cover topping off our list [D] will
blow your mind, so lay [F#] down some protective [Am] carpets. _ _ _ _ _
_ [F] _ _ _ _ _ [Am] _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ [B] Cops from Pitch Perfect, made famous by [Em] the multi-talented Anna Kendrick, is in fact a
cover of a [G] song sung by Lulu and the Lampshades [F#] based on the original from the 1930s called
When I'm Gone by the Carter family.
The song also [B] has been covered by Charlie Monroe.
Had no [D] idea.
All of these covers [F#] not only go to show [B] you that your whole life has been a lie, but that _
music completely transcends time [D] because covers can be just as notable, [F#] or sometimes even
[B] more notable, than the originals.
So which one of these covers did you think [D] was the original?
