We're not big on false promises [N] here.
As promised, 10,000 maniacs.
And talking to Stephen before the show, you threw out some big numbers at me.
33 years we've been together.
That's incredible.
That's incredible for a marriage, let alone a band.
And a marriage, usually you're only factoring in two personalities.
Here, there's a lot.
What's the key?
Being respectful of each other and getting away from each other whenever we can.
That might be good.
That's where we all have our own hotel rooms.
That might be good.
Well, let's talk a little about how life has changed.
I mean, you're obviously still on the road.
You're here in our studio.
You're going to be at the Rathskeller tonight.
How has that changed over the years for you?
Do you have a different approach to back in the day when you had a van?
You're all squeezing in a van?
Well, we're still squeezing in a van.
And although there's not as much room in the van anymore, they seem to be making them smaller.
And of course, that's our first van.
We bought that from a school for $1,000, $1,200.
And painted it.
We had all our gear in that back and we drove about 60,000 miles in that thing.
That thing has some stories.
Oh yeah.
A little different going now, though, right? Well, yeah.
We rent.
And it's a little more comfortable.
We don't have to sleep on anyone's floors anymore.
But with 10 million albums sold, right?
Yeah.
What's it like to go on the road when you guys want to present?
Do you have that sort of Ricky Nelson thing where you've got new stuff you're still creating,
but people want to hear their hits, too?
Do you find that balance?
That nuance?
We do both.
We play the hits and some deep cuts and stuff from the new album, Twice Told Tales, that
we're recording right now.
You can get it on maniacs.com, on our webpage.
We'll make sure we link that.
That's a different approach for you, too, that album, right?
Yeah.
Mary can probably tell you about that.
Some folk songs that we
Yeah, [E] we're recording an album of British Isles [Dm] tunes.
Oh, wow.
I'm a violin violist.
It [D#] really lends itself to our whole
Well, all our instruments lend itself to that kind of music, [A#] that style of music.
It wasn't a stretch.
It wasn't a reach.
No.
So we're really excited about it.
So we should have it probably finished by the end of August. Great.
It's all on the web.
We connect with them.
Web finance through crowd sourcing. Oh, wow.
Great.
Yeah, pledgemusic.com.
And we can go maniacs.com.
