22 years ago, I was actually out on tour with you guys at that time,
and Your Love Amazes Me was climbing up the charts,
and I don't know if you guys noticed, because y'all were busy,
and I was just the old little opening act guy,
but I didn't show up at catering, because I couldn't eat.
I was so nauseous all the time, and I had this horrible headache all the time.
Washington, D.C. area, I had a couple of days off,
and Robin was at home, and I had changed a lot.
I had quit eating, and then taken a bottle of Advil a day
to try and get rid of this headache, and I had sent her home.
She was touring with us, and I was just cramping my style, you know,
sent her home, and she was pregnant with our second child, Sean,
and I would go weeks without calling her.
And finally, I got a phone call from her.
She called.
It was the morning of April 29th,
and she called and said that Sean was going to be born that day,
and I said, that sounds great.
Let me know how it goes.
That didn't go well.
And a couple of minutes later, my mother-in-law was on the phone with my road manager,
and she said, get him on a plane and get him home.
I don't care what's going on with him.
So I did.
I sent me home, and I got to the hospital,
and Robin, I walked into the room, and I didn't really want to be there.
I felt so bad physically and emotionally, and she didn't recognize me at first.
I had lost so much weight.
I had lost about 60 pounds.
I felt so unbelievably sick, and I sat down on the floor,
and a minute or two later, this nurse stopped by, this lady that I knew,
and she said, John, is that you?
And like a good nurse, she sat down on the floor next to me and started asking questions,
and asking questions about my mom and my dad and health history,
and I said, well, my dad survived a cerebral aneurysm in 1957,
and right before I was born, and she said, what about your mom?
I said, well, she passed away in 1981 from a cerebral aneurysm,
and I was like, I didn't realize a gurney could go that fast.
But they had me in an emergency room and did a CAT scan,
and they found this little thing in the middle of my brain.
It wasn't an aneurysm, but it had this little blister,
and it caused this buildup of fluid and pressure and change of personality
and loss of appetite, and on May 10th, I had brain surgery.
They went in and fiber optic surgery and poked a hole in it,
and I woke up, and I was me.
I was me.
It was just unbelievable.
I couldn't believe it.
But the amazing thing is that my wife Robin went from basically being abandoned to being my nurse,
and she had made a decision to love me.
She said love was not a feeling.
It was a decision, and that's what got her through it,
is that she had made a decision that she was going to love me.
I just can't say enough about her and how she helped me through a very difficult time,
and that even though she had been put through so much during that time of our lives
and with the pregnancy, going through the pregnancy with Sean,
that she would stand by me and that she would nurse me back and that she would love me anyway.
Of all things, [Bb] the morning of May 10th, the day I had the brain surgery, I had my first number one record.
[Eb] I hope I don't have [Gm] to do that again to get another [C] number [Bb] one song.
[Eb] But I know so many people have used this song in weddings and [F] different things,
but this song will always be [Bb] Robin's.
[F]
[Bb] I've seen the seven wonders of the world
[Gm] I've seen the beauty [C] of [F] diamonds and pearls
[Bb]
[Eb] But they ain't nothing baby, your [F] love [Bb] amazes me
[F] [Bb]
I've seen a sunset that could make you [F] cry
[Gm] And colors of a rainbow [C]
reaching across the [Bb] sky
[Eb] The moon in all its [F] phases, your love [Bb] amazes me
Don't
[Dm] you ever doubt this [Eb] love of [Bb] mine
You're the only one for [G] me
[Cm] You give me hope, you give me reason
[Gm] You give me something to believe [Ab] in
Forever [F] faithfully, your love
[Bb] amazes me
Your [F] love
[F] [Bb] [Bb]
I prayed for miracles [F] that never came
[Gm] I got down on my knees out [C] in the [Gm] pouring [F] rain
[Eb] But only you could [F] save me, and your love amazes [Bb] me
[Dm]
Don't you ever doubt [Eb] this love of mine
You're the only one [F] for me
[F] [Cm] You give me hope, you give me [Gm] reason
You give me something to believe in
[Ab] Forever [F] faithfully, your [Fm] love amazes [Bb] me
[Eb]
[Gm] Your love
[Bb] [Eb] But only you could [F] save me, and your love [Bb] amazes me
[C] [Bb]
[N]
Thank you!
Appreciate that.
