I'm Gretchen Men, that was Song for George by Eric Johnson, and this is a Gibson G00.
[G]
[D] [G] I've teamed up with Gibson and Guitar World to show you this new [D] model, which is based
on the Gibson L00.
[G]
It has the same classic body shape, but with some reimagined details like a very comfortable
thinner body depth.
[D]
The top is solid Sitka spruce, and it has a slight dome [G] which gives it that signature
mid-range.
[D]
The back and sides are solid walnut, the neck is Zilli, [Dm] and the fingerboard and bridge are [G] striped ebony.
[D]
There are a [Dm] number of features that stood out to me, [G] especially in an instrument that's this affordable.
[D]
[G] The dovetail neck joint, the nitrocellulose finish, which gives both a really nice playing
feel, I love that [D] it's not sticky, and beautiful aging characteristics.
It's typically found in high-end instruments.
[G]
There's a port that was brought over from an original [D] Gibson blueprint from the 1960s.
Gibson tested a number of possible port positions and found the sweet spot [G] on positioning and
size for optimal playing feedback.
[D] This is a really cool feature as it directs some of the sound up towards your ears.
[Dm]
It's built in the US, in the same factory as all Gibson acoustics, so it provides musician-friendly
pricing while [D] being built to become [A] an heirloom instrument, with attention to quality and detail.
This [Dm] model does not have [G] a pickup, so what [Dm] you're hearing is it mic'd going into my audio
interface and logic, with a little [D] touch of added reverb.
[A]
[D]
One last thing I gotta mention is the playability, because I'm not somebody who plays steel string
with [G] exclusive focus.
My [D] calluses and my muscles are more [G] used to a combination of electric playing and nylon
string and a little bit of steel string, but if I have to put in a lot of hours [D] or a whole
day on [G] the steel string acoustic, I really tend to feel it, so pairing a piece like Song
for [D] George that's a little bit more challenging and something that I need more than an hour
or two to get ready to perform, being able to put in the requisite time [G] on the instrument
and not feel like I'm in a lot of pain was a huge bonus.
