I'm [Eb] going to bring up my buddy from Chicago, Mr.
Boyd from Chicago,
actually from San Francisco.
[E]
Mr.
Nick, Boyd from Chicago, Gravenitis, Mr.
[E] Greene.
I'm [A] going to play you what he wrote.
[A]
Yeah, yeah.
This is a poem I wrote back in 1970
when my good friend Janet Joplin,
she was recording an album down in L.A.
And she called me up in San Francisco and she said,
Nick, write me a song for my album.
I said, of course.
I had something in my mind and I flew down to L.A.
working out in the rehearsal studio,
taught the band the song, taught Janet the song,
went to work Friday and I went back home.
And I was told, lately,
that they recorded the song, the band put the tracks down,
and Janet was going to come in the next day
and do the vocals.
She died in a night,
never made it for that song.
They were on the last album as an instrumental,
interrupted,
it was called Buried Alive in the Blooms.
All caught up on the [E] land for that night.
[D] Oh, bad [A] luck took the man from all his life.
Got fucked up in [E] my youth.
[D] Buried [A] alive in the blooms.
It's Sunday morning, [E] everybody's in bed.
[A] I'm on the street talking out of my head.
There's something wrong [E] with her,
girl, you see.
[A] Buried alive in the blooms.
Buried [D] alive.
[E]
[A] Buried alive in the blooms.
Buried [D] alive.
[E]
[A] Buried alive in the blooms.
I was at your mercy.
[E] I prayed for a ring.
[Am] I refused [A] to be the one who had stepped on the blame.
So pray, girl, [E] don't lose my brain.
[A] Buried alive in the blooms.
Now all you can throw at me,
[E] the one little girl that you [A] could not make me laugh,
the one who could not make me cry,
well, it ain't no use,
[E] because you know [A] I'm buried alive.
Buried [D] alive.
[E]
[A] Buried alive in the blooms.
Buried [D] alive [E]
[A] in the blooms.

All caught up [E] in the rooms for that [A] night.
Oh, bad luck took the man from all his life.
I got caught off of [E] my easy walk.
[D] I'm very [A] alive in the blues.
Now I won't be fooled.
[B] You can walk on by, [D] but not make me [A] laugh, but not make me cry.
Well, there ain't no [B] use in a [D] lie.
[A]
I'm [D] very alive, very [E]
alive [A] in my blues.
[D] [E]
[A] I'm very alive in the bad condition.
Very alive in this worsening jail.
Very alive in the sad situation.
Very alive, cause there ain't no pain.
Very alive to try to make love to someone.
I'm very alive, there's no better girl for you.
And if you hear the rocket scream, watch it pop your lung.
Cause I'm no funny hillbilly, I'm just a little lion.
You can't make love in lies.
