Hi everyone, I wanted to do a remake of a previous lesson because I've had a few comments saying that
Oh, you were playing too quickly.
And of course, this is the typical
moan from some of you my beloved subscribers that I play too quickly and of course remember that because boogie-woogie is an
improvisatory art form I
Kind of make it up on the spur of the moment and sometimes it's difficult to slow things down
And I do expect you to play back these lessons over and over again
Rather than just playing it once and expecting to
Know it all so but I'm gonna do a remake of the right hand boogie-woogie riff lesson because I think I
Might have played too fast there
But I do expect you to play this back again and again and again to try and work out the notes
So this is a remake of right hand boogie-woogie riffs.
I think it's lesson 16
And I started off by showing you the dr.
[C] John riff.
So Cameron do you want to come in [G] and
The dr.
[G#] John riff the standard [E] dr.
John riff in C is like [C] this.
I'll play it quickly first
Now that slowed down is [Gm] simply
[Em] Okay, [B] [C]
[F] [C]
I'll do that in the key of G [G]
the same riff in G
Now slowed down.
It's this so just a bit
[G#]
Okay, [C]
[F#] [G] [C]
[D#] [Em] so in C it would be this
Make sure you get the grace note
[C#] [C]
[Fm] [Cm] [G#] or in G [G] it would be
[Am] [F#]
[G] [C]
[Em] And I there are hundreds of thousands [N] of variations on of that riff and
Because it's improvisation I tend to kind of make them up but for example, this would be a slow one
Don't come in yet [C] camera, but I don't if you can hear this
That's the kind of variation
I'll show you how to do that camera come in.
We'll stay in the key of C.
So this one.
It's just a variation.
It's
[Em] So camera, I hope you can get the whole hand there
[C#] [D#]
[Cm] [Fm] [Cm] Now that is [C] really slowed down, you know quick it goes like this
Broken [N] down into its excruciatingly slow painful [Gm] details.
It's this
[C] Now
[F] [D#] [C] [Cm]
[Fm] [Cm]
that sounds [C] really weird when it's slow.
I'll do it again
[F] [D#] [C] [Cm]
Orangey [C]
[Cm] it would be [G]
this [C] [Gm] time
[C] [G]
[E] [C] [Gm]
[G]
[C] [Gm] [C] [G]
Cameraperson do you think that's slow enough?
What do you think?
I think that's perfect
Give me a bit of feedback because I don't want people saying this is way too fast
I'm relying on you camera person
Okay, [N] let's do another one.
I'll finish off.
I can't remember the other if I did I think I did the Jules Holland kind of
Riff camera just listen to this one.
You might remember this one.
We did a Jules Holland kind of twiddly thing
[Cm] so
[Fm]
[Cm] [C]
[Gm] [C]
[F] camera, I'll show you a little Jules Holland Twiddly bit if you want to come in and
I like Jules [Am] because of his kind of triplet style twiddles.
So try this.
This is a tip
He [Em] does it on the blue scale or the [C] pentatonic scale
[G] Okay, [F]
[C] [D]
[F] [C] [F#m]
[F] [C] I'll do that little riff again
[B] That's [Fm]
the key thing there.
Can you get that twiddle?
[B] [C] again
Okay.
[F]
[C] [F#] [Cm] [C]
[F]
[Cm] [C] [F]
[C] [G] [Cm]
[F#] [Cm] [C]
So those [N] are a few of the right hand boogie riffs, which I wanted to share with you and
Again, I hope that was slow enough.
This is a kind of corrected slower version of I think less than 16
so I hope that you can play this back and
Get some good out of it
I remember remember these are not dogmas that you can't change the best thing when you're a boogie boogie player is to
Take what I've shown you and if you kind of change it subtly with your own riff then feel free to do that
Your aim is not to become a carbon copy of me or dr.
John or Jules Holland or
Whoever your aim is to develop your own style
okay, and and you do that by what I call in my book the magpie method by stealing a bit here by stealing a bit there and
Develop the confidence to change things or if you find that another note is slightly better for you then include that
So take what I've given you vary it if you want and give me your feedback
I hope this has been a slower lesson of the right hand boogie riffs and that you'll give me your comments
