Hi guys, thought I'd do a tutorial for the Beatles Full on the Hill, my way of playing
it on acoustic guitar.
Of course ordinarily it's a piano tune but you can do a pretty
nice version of the guitar too.
And it does use some nice chords, interesting ones, different
ones.
Okay, it starts on a D6 which if you take your [G] D formation, just release the second
string.
So you're basically just playing the first string on the [C#] second and the third string
on the second.
Okay, [D] so day after day.
[A] The next chord, alone on a hill.
I think [E] it's
a [G] D minor over D so like your [Dm] D minor's here right?
So that formation, just slide it up
two [Em] frets to make an E minor obviously.
[A] But you're playing the D over the E minor so you
go between those two [D] chords.
I find it [E] easy to play the D6 with my third and fourth fingers
because of the next chord, you can just slide it up.
[D] Day after day, alone on a hill.
Back to the D6.
The man with the foolish grin is keeping [G]
perfectly still.
[A] [Em] When you're strumming you're not playing
[A] the E okay?
So you're just playing the A downwards.
[G] [D] [Em] And nobody wants to.
So that's an E minor 7.
[A] To an A7.
[D] Back to your D6.
[Bm] To a B minor 7.
You could play B minor if you want but I think it might be B [F#m] minor 7.
[Em] Back to the E minor [A] 7.
And the A7 again.
So [C#] lots of 7ths in there.
[Em] [A] [F#m]
He's just a fool.
[Em] He never [A] gives an answer.
And [Dm]
the chorus.
D minor.
You're going to be getting between a D minor and a D minor [G#m] augmented.
[Dm] Basically just playing your D minor and then just using your pinky to go onto the third [A#] fret on the third string.
[Dm] On and off.
Fool on the hill.
Right.
Fool on the hill.
[A] Sees the sun.
Back to the D minor augmented.
Going down.
[C] And the eyes.
To [E] a [C] C7.
Eyes in his [Dm] head.
See the world.
Back to the D minor.
Spinning round.
To [A] a D minor 7.
Which [F] is first, first, second.
[Dm]
Love spinning [D] round.
I play an ordinary D then.
Just like for one stroke.
And then back into your [C#] D6 before you come to the next verse.
Did [G] you see that chorus again?
But the [A#] fool on the [Dm] hill.
Sees the [A] sun going down.
[C] And the eyes in his head.
See [Dm] the world spinning round.
[D] [D] Well on the way.
So on.
And that's [E] it.
They're the only parts of the whole song.
[G#m]
Other than that little middle bit where it's round and round and round.
And it's [A] just basically going between the D6 and the D over the E [D] minor.
[G]
[Em] [A] [D]
[Em] So [Dm]
on.
[G#m] Ok so two parts.
D6.
[Em]
To the D over the E minor.
Or E minor over the [D] D however you say it.
[Em]
[A] E minor 7 to the A7.
Now you get to C.
D6.
B minor 7.
[Em] E minor 7.
[A]
A7.
And then the [Dm] chorus.
Fool on the hill.
D minor to the D minor augmented.
Sees [A#] the sun going down.
[C] And the eyes.
To the C7.
In his head.
[C#] I find that the hardest transition actually.
[C] D minor to a [G] C7.
That's the trickiest part of the song for mine.
Anyway, again as usual, [D#] that's enough to get you playing [F#] Fool on the Hill I think.
So, [N] until next time.
